From 2018—2024 Flutes in Tuscany ran a Young Artist Scholarship which offered an annual fully funded place, sponsored by Pearl Flutes and individual sponsors.

2025 – Maria Filippova
We waited an extra year to hear Maria as our Young Artist, due to complications with Maria’s visa, but it was so worth the wait! Maria’s recital was varied and contained many unknown or rarely played delights. She opened with a Beethoven Sonata no 8 in G major, originally composed for violin and piano, but Maria more than sold its merits as a flute piece, with stylistic details, precise articulation and dramatic contrasts throughout. She followed this with the Sonatine by Pierre Sancan, which contrasted in style and timbre as Maria and Aaron captured the rhythms and harmonies with effortless charm.
A solo Telemann Fantasia followed, no 6 in D minor. This had integrity throughout – with an intense understanding of the direction, style and harmonic shifts and turns contained within this challenging solo. Maria was again joined by Aaron for Alexander Schiabin’s four pieces, originally for piano solo, but transcribed successfully as pieces for flute and piano and their programme ended with the fourth movement of Alexander Kapustin’s Sonata – a jazzy and ferociously virtuosic piece, performed with electrifying brilliance and panache by both players. There was a chemistry here, that I hope these two will continue to explore.

2025 — Martha-Lilly Dyer
Martha-Lilly submitted an exciting programme ‘Women in Tuscany’ which included pieces by Lili Boulanger, Rhonda Larson, Mel Bonis, and Florence Price.
Martha-Lilly has had a long association with Flutes in Tuscany, having attended the first course back in 2016. She has since studied with Matthew Featherstone at RWCMD and is now a student at RCM, London, where she studies with Gitte Marcusson and Simon Channing. Hear Martha-Lilly performing live in Tereglio:
2022 — Daryna Bachynska
Daryna will receive a fully funded place on the course, thanks to our sponsors – Pearl Flutes, and to the many individuals who sponsored Liz’s 69 mile walk.
Daryna Bachynska was born in Lviv, Ukraine in October 2000 and impressed Liz, Sarah and Aaron with her lively and intensely musical performance of Karg-Elert’s Appassionata Sonata for flute solo, opus 140 and stylish performance of Vivaldi’s concerto – Il Gardellino.
We look forward to hearing Daryna’s flute recital in Tereglio this July. A programme to include Ian Clarke’s The Great Train Race, sonatas by Mel Bonis and Sancan, Donizetti’s Oboe sonata performed on piccolo, and Muczynski’s Three Preludes.
2019 — Alyse Faith
2018 — Katie Sazanova
Katie was our first Young Artist in Tuscany. She won the award having submitted a beautiful, live recording on Winter Spirits by Katherine Hoover, where she evoked a rich palate of tonal and colours with a musical intelligence. Katie graduated with a First-class Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2015 and is currently studying for her Master of Arts degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance, with Anna Pope, Wissam Boustany and Chris Green (piccolo).
